Orban: A Trump victory forces Europe to rethink aid for Ukraine

Europe should reconsider its support for Ukraine if Donald Trump is elected president of the United States, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has said Sunday, since, according to him, the <x0-cycth of the continent will not be able to handle the fight by itself”. Orban opposes military assistance for Ukraine and has made it clear that Trump has the same positions, and would negotiate a peaceful solution for Ukraine.
It supports former President Trump, the republican candidate for president, in the race against current vice president Kamala Harris, candidate and Democrats for president.
We [in Europe] have to understand that if we have a pro-peace president in America, and not only do I believe, I'm looking at the numbers in that direction. If what happens is what we expect and America will be pro-peace, then Europe can't be pro-war”, Orban said.
Ukraine will be high on the agenda of European leaders who meet next week in Budapest, he has said, referring to the European Political Community and another more informal meeting of EU leaders.
Europe can't just carry the burden of war, and if Americans return to peace, then we have to adapt, and we'll discuss that in Budapest”, Orban said.
The election result in the United States is expected to have a major impact on the war in Ukraine and the security of the European continent.
Orban has recently angered Brussels, due to close ties with Russia and its objections to helping Ukraine, which faces the February 2022 Russian invasion.
Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijarto has said in July that the Hungarian government views Trump as the “peace wrestler” in Ukraine.
In July, Orban and his team have helped Trump's team about family policies and migration.
He called Trump on Thursday to wish him luck in the November 5th election. /Radio Europe Free
