EU leaders have signed a declaration of competition during their informal summit held last week.
“Energy prices must certainly be reduced. This means that sanctions should be reviewed because according to the current policy of sanctions, energy prices cannot be reduced”, Orban said during an interview for Hungarian public radio.
Orban said American companies a quarter of the sum that European states pay for gas and electricity, a disadvantage that cannot be overcome in other ways.
Since Russia began the invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Orban has been a vocal critic of EU sanctions against Moscow and the financial and military aid the bloc has provided for Ukraine, the REL reports.
While countries in western Europe have made serious efforts to give up Russian energy, Hungary receives 80-85 percent of the gas from Russia and 80 percent of its crude oil supplies is also obtained from Moscow.
