Like around the world, Kosovo has eyes on the United States.
Former Kosovo diplomat Melza-Haradinaj Stublla in a pronomination for Periscope has said it is a time changing geopolitical landscape in the world.
Kosovo is looking to the United States today, as historic elections are under way with a tight electoral dispute there, at a time when the global geopolitical landscape and each state is quickly changing without exception taking action to adapt to the new situation, re-Literating old alliances, and forming new”, it has said of Periscope.
Despite the US result, former Kosovo chief diplomat believes Kosovo will continue to enjoy American support.
However, it says the country must build new bridges of co-operation with the US.
Kosovo has been historically blessed with the strong alliance with America, enjoying the support of both political camps in the crucial first and post-independence situations, and also in the formation and internal and external consolidation of our new state, and I believe it will continue despite the election results tonight. However, since the world is rapidly changing, Kosovo would also have to navigate quickly according to its strategic interests, investing in the coalition with the US, restoring the existing relationship, and building new bridges of co-operation in the areas of state interest”, Haradinaj has said.
But, top diplomat Haradinaj also has criticism.
She has said that in recent years efforts to maintain reports with the US have been small.
The last “years, Kosovo has maintained its relationship with the US less effort, with minimal consultation, and therefore has lacked the result of this existential partnership with the US, we have not had new recognitions, nor new membership in international organisations, nor access to important conventions, nor the strategic and political strengthening of the Kosovo Army. Also, results in dialogue with Serbia have been missing”, she said.
According to Haradinaj, Kosovo must change its approach to the United States of America.
In addition, Haradinaj says it should also strengthen diplomacy in New York.
“I think it is that Kosovo will have to change its approach and commitment to strengthening strategic partnership with the US, regardless of which candidate wins tonight. Kosovo must strengthen its team at the Embassy in Washington, the Consulate in New York and in Iowa, extend its diplomatic action to other US states, especially where the potential of military, economic, cultural, innovative co-operation, and that of our diaspora there would be amplified. Therefore, we have much work to do to strengthen and advance our partnership with the US”, said former diplomat Melza Haradinaj. /Periscopi
