Mikati called for the implementation of a UN resolution ending the war between Israel and Hezbollah the militant group and the political party that controls the southern majority of Lebanon in the summer of 2006, and enabled the delocation of Lebanese troops along the border with Israel in co-ordination with UN peacekeepers.
Mikati spoke at the opening of the Arab-Islamic summit in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
He said the war caused an unprecedented “loss”, as more than 3,000 people were killed, including 775 women and children.
Micah said that the war between Israel and Hezbollah has also caused $8.5 billion in losses, including $3.4 billion in damage and destruction of some 100,000 homes in various parts of the state.
Hezbollah is a declared terrorist group by the United States, meanwhile, the European Union has put the military arm on the blacklist, but not the group's political group. Hezbollah's party has seats in the Lebanese Parliament.
No state can bear the burden of this great destruction”, Mikati said, adding that Beirut will establish a fund, which will be financed by friendly states, for the reconstruction process.
Since fighting in Gaza between Israel and Hamas the Palestinian group declared terrorist organisation by the US and the EU last October, Israel and Hezbollah have exchanged fire at the border.
Tensions escalated in October, as Israel intensified air strikes throughout Lebanon against Hezbollah and launched ground offensive in southern Lebanon. / REL/
