Special Prosecutor Jack Smith urged federal judges overseeing the election intervention issue against President-elect Donald Trump to cancel all future court terms, approaching the break of the case.
Smith said he plans to make a 2 December presentation on what to do about the criminal case now that Trump has been elected president.
Smith's office has said the case will be fired because a incumbent president cannot be prosecuted according to the Justice Department policy.
In Friday's presentation, Smith said his office needed “time to assess this unprecedented circumstance and determine the right course in line with Justice Department policy”.
Smith had accused Trump of illegal efforts to remain in office after the 2020 elections, which he lost to President Joe Biden. /AP/
