Giaufret told TV Prva that the speed at which Serbia will join the EU is conditioned by reforms in the area of rule of law, fighting corruption, as well as relations between Kosovo and Serbia.
We are now in a situation where we have several agreements reached, from 2013 and 2015, and the agreement on the road to normalising relations from last year. Now the issue is the implementation of numerous commitments. The main issues are on the table, both sides have obligations to apply”, Giaufret said.
He recalled that a series of unilateral “ ” Kosovo, which made life difficult for people in Kosovo, was criticised by the EU.
“We are discussing in the context of dialogue how to proceed. And this is the message we've conveyed to negotiators on both sides. One of the key aspects is the creation of association. Europeans have provided a draft of the statute and expect to see progress in establishing the association”, he said.
He stressed that dialogue must be continued because there is no other way to resolve the situation, especially to improve the lives of the local population.
