Experts: Double property taxes have major consequences for businesses

The government has extended the 2026 deadline for implementing commercial property taxes. Double the business property tax will add to the functioning of businesses in particular small ones, economic connoisseurs say.

It has been postponed for 2026 to implement the progressive tax rate on commercial property, which provided for next year to double business property taxes.

Economic analyst Ismet Mulaj, speaking of Radio Kosovo, says that with the doubling of property taxes, medium-sized businesses will be significantly damaged.

Kosovo has a tradition where families have survived small businesses because they create jobs, and we can't create big businesses because then they are developed by governments and politics, and therefore most laws go into the function of big businesses”, he stressed.

Even the chairman of Kosovo's Economic Oceans, Lulzim Rafuna, estimates that this law will have major consequences for businesses.

“Business isn't in its best days, there are many challenges. Even now we are seeing that the assembly is not working, our demand is to make a difference in this design, but not charge businesses with additional taxes, especially in this period where they are really facing many challenges”, Rafuna said.

The postponement of this decision has welcomed the Association of Kosovo municipalities, where the Association of Kosovo municipalities has lobbied and argued that this tax rate is heavy and heavy burden added to the owners of commercial real estate.
