Smith is currently leading numerous cases against Trump, who will become the first president to take office while some cases against him are pending.
According to The Guardian, special prosecutors will close their criminal cases against Donald Trump before he takes office.
These include a case of alleged abuse of classified documents and one for his efforts to overturn his defeat in the 2020 elections against Joe Beden.
The justice department is still considering how to close issues, which are in different stages and are complicated. In particular, the department does not want the issue of classified documents, which was fired and is currently complaining, to pass unopposed.
Trump has said several times that he plans to fire Smith and put an end to federal affairs against him.
