Over 100 civil society organisations from the Balkans ask EU for Kosovo's involvement in ECMI initiative

The Balkan Civil Society Development Network (BCSDN), which also includes the Kosovar Civil Society Foundation (KCSF), through a media report, disclosed that it has delivered a letter signed by more than 100 civil society organisations to the EU Economic and Social Council (KEES/EESC). In [...]
In Delivered Letter, required the inclusion of Kosovo in the Membership Initiative from Enlargement Candidate Countries (ECMI) and the continuation of this initiative even after its pilot phase.
B The CSDN and the KCSF stress that Kosovo's non-involvement is a decision that “outlines the principles of equality and inclusion,” underlining that it is unfair that Kosovo, a country with clear perspective towards EU integration, will remain out of the initiative due to the lack of candidate country status.
In reporting to the media, the KCSF stresses that this decision is “against the values and principles promoted by this EU institution” and requires revision of the basic criteria for qualifications.
The organisation once again expressed its concern at the meeting, held on May 24th 2024 with ECES/ EESC and, recently, at the High Level Conference for Civil Society, October 24th in Brussels.
Kosovo's involvement in this initiative is essential for stronger regional co-operation and to support our common path towards European integration,” said the KCSF in its announcement.
