In his statement, Stier stresses that he will pay particular attention to the European perspective of the two countries and reforms that will have to be implemented on the road to the EU.
As chairman of the European Parliament delegation, Stier will co-chair joint parliamentary commissions: The EU-BiH Parliamentary Commission for Stabilisation and Association and Parliamentary Committee for Stabilisation and Association of EU-Kosovo.
“After receiving candidate status, BiH now has the opportunity to achieve and meet the reform agenda, which is in the interest of the constituent peoples and citizens of BiH and the European Union itself”, Stier said, and announced it aims to hold a session of the joint parliamentary commission early next month.
He has also warned that he will work for Kosovo's European perspective.
“Peace, security, dialogue and normalisation of relations with Serbia, protection of minority rights and all Kosovo citizens, as well as implementation of constitutional order on the entire territory of the Republic of Kosovo will be priority issues in joint work”, Stier said.
He adds that the geopolitical challenges facing the EU require a stronger commitment to Southeast Europe and that, in this direction, stability and security in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Kosovo are of crucial importance to the entire continent.
