A Moroccan woman from a village in the province of Chichau, near Marakeshi, lost her husband and four children in the earthquake that struck Morocco on Friday.

More than 2 thousand people lost their lives, and more than 3 thousand were injured in a powerful 7.2 magnitude earthquake that hit Morocco, the country's Interior Ministry announced on Saturday.

It is considered the most powerful earthquake that struck this country in North Africa in the last 100 years, it has been announced by the National Institute for Geophysics in Morocco.

The U.S. Geological Service (USGS) reported that the earthquake's epicentre, which occurred shortly after 23:00, was 75 miles [75 km] southeast of Marrakesh, at a depth of 185 miles [18.5 km].

The quake has also felt in neighboring Algeria and Mauritania.
