More than 2 thousand people lost their lives, and more than 3 thousand were injured in a powerful 7.2 magnitude earthquake that hit Morocco, the country's Interior Ministry announced on Saturday.
Meanwhile, it has become known that among those injured over 1,000 are in critical condition. Death cases from the quake have been recorded in many regions, including Al Hauz and Marakesh provinces, as well as the towns of Ourzazat, Azial, Chichau and Tarudant.
It is considered the most powerful earthquake that struck this country in North Africa in the last 100 years, it has been announced by the National Institute for Geophysics in Morocco.
The U.S. Geological Service (USGS) reported that the earthquake's epicentre, which occurred shortly after 23:00, was 75 miles [75 km] southeast of Marrakesh, at a depth of 185 miles [18.5 km].
The quake has also felt in neighboring Algeria and Mauritania.
