Uzbekistan's president, Shavkat Miziyoev, has named his daughter Saida Mirziyoev, as the president's secretary on 25 August, the presidency's office in Telegram announced.
The appointment of relatives in influential state positions is common in the authoritarian countries of Central Asia. In Turkmenistan, President Serdar Berdymukhammedov succeeded his father, Gurbunguly Berdymukhammedov.
In Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon's eldest son, Rustam Emomali, holds important positions, including the post of speaker of the Parliament's upper house and that of Dushanbe's president.
Saida Mirziyoev, 38, becomes the second person in presidential administration after his father, Shavkat Mirziyoev.
Her position as secretary is equal to the position of chief of the presidency administration.
