Kurti: situation in northern Kosovo has been stressed

Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti said Tuesday that the situation in the country's north has been intensified and it is time for the European Union to lift punitive measures against Kosovo and work on implementing the agreement to normalise relations with Serbia that has been achieved in March of this year. These comments, according to a Kosovo government communique, Prime Minister Kurti made during his meeting with Greece's prime minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, in Athens.
The prime minister was quoted as saying that “after Bratislava's agreement is taking place two months without an incident of violent protest in the four municipalities in northern Kosovo”. There is already a tense situation, and the concentration must be “preventing escalation from violent elements”.
Prime Minister Kurti has called for full implementation and no provisions reached at the beginning of this year between Kosovo and Serbia.
Calls for the reduction of the situation in northern Kosovo and greater commitment to the dialogue facilitated by the European Union have also called for European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, who the previous day belonged to Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti and Serbia's president, Aleksandar Vucic, in Greece, who attended informal dinner organised by the Greek prime minister.
The European Union seeks to reduce tensions through a plan envisioning the suspension of police operations in the north, the transfer of mayors to alternative offices, and the proclamation of early elections with unconditional participation of Kosovo Serbs.
Kosovo's government has agreed to steps to lower tensions, halving the presence of police units in municipal buildings in the north and making moves to pave the way for early elections.
It expects the European Union to lift punitive measures against Kosovo, which were imposed in June due to the situation in the north.
But the European Union has said that the government's “actions are important steps in the right direction, but further steps are needed to ease the crisis in the north, early elections should be held as soon as possible.
