Food Safe, Life Safe
Do you know that?
Worldwide, 1 out of 10 people get sick each year of contaminated food? Children up to 5 are the most endangered category.
What is contaminated food?
Contaminated food contains dangerous substances and bacteria that can cause human health problems. These include microorganisms, pesticides, remains of medicines used for animals, glass, and small stones. Farmers, producers and food distributors should help provide clean, unspoiled food.
What can we do for home food control?
- Wash your hands with soap before and while preparing food
- Keep food in closed containers in the refrigerator because germs can easily breed.
- Do not wash raw meat and birds with water. Germs, if available, are not washed; rather, they can spread to the working surfaces, dishes, and other foods.
- Do not eat food that has fallen on the floor because even the slightest touch can transfer germs to food.

If the food is safe, you're safe. Food security is in your hands!
Important information:
- Food security and adequate food use are inseparably linked.
- Some 600 million people - every tenth of them in the world - are sick of the use of contaminated food, and some 420 thousand die.
- $110 billion is the annual loss in working hours and medical costs in low and medium income countries.
- Children under the age of 5 represent 40% of the total affected by the problem, resulting in 125,000 deaths.
