Down Syndrome Kosovo strongly condemns physical violence reported on to a child with Donna syndrome
Concerned that through social media, Facebook we have accepted a report of violence against a child with Down syndrome exercised by the representative of the OPFAKOS centre in Pec, with initials I. B, in the presence of NGO staff in question and other participants. Witness present, M. M (ready to testify before competent organs) reported that on July 6, 2023, on public space, the beach in Velipoja, the Republic of Albania, the upper hammer has practiced physical violence and has then thrown the child into water at the risk of his life.
Since accepting this information, The DSK has tried to contact the OPFAKOS representatives, where it has demanded that the organisation in question handle the constitutional case, but from their representatives we have received answers that the OPFAKOS centre in Pec does not operate under the umbrella of the OPFAKOS. So far we've had no way to have information on the functioning of this center in Pec, where the same activity was organised in Velipoj.
How DSK, we have contacted the parent of the child who confirmed that the person in question committed violence against his child, but for reasons unknown to us (DSK), the parent has refused to report the case. However, for the DSK, any form of violence is unacceptable and we feel a legal and reform duty to take the necessary measures for case treatment. The Down Syndrome Kosovo Association is constantly engaged in promotion, respect and protection of the rights of people with Down syndrome, as well as zero tolerance towards any form of violence against our community. The DSK and the Down - syndrome community strongly condemn the work carried out by Mr. I.B. And we call on all law enforcement bodies to treat the case in a fair and professional manner. The DSK is ready to co-operate with institutions in question, in accordance with the legislation on power and Child Protection Policy.
