US President Joe Biden called Chinese President Xi Jinping “dictator” and said Xi expressed shame when a Chinese balloon had collapsed from America earlier this year.
Beden made these comments a day after Secretary of State Antony Blinken went to meet Xi on a trip to China, which aimed at reducing tensions between the two countries.
The reason why Xi Jinping was very upset that I crashed that balloon with two cars full of spying tools is that he didn't know that the balloon was there”, Biden said at a fund-gathering ceremony in California on Tuesday. “This is a great shame for dictators. So they don't know what's going on. That balloon wasn't supposed to go where it was going. (We) certainly knocked it down”, Beden added.
A balloon suspected of being Chinese flew into the American sky this February. This incident and the exchange of meetings between US officials and Taiwan have exacerbated tensions between the US and China. In March, Xi secured his third term as president of China, thus making him China's most powerful leader since Mao Zedong's time.
It is expected that at the end of this week, Beden will meet India's prime minister, Narendra Modini, and China is expected to be a topic of discussion between the two leaders.
