“With visa liberalisation, half of youth will be removed”, ASS statistics alarm for population contraction

Kosovo's Statistics Agency has been alarmed to shrink the country's population into an organised discussion, along with the Population and Development Programme on the <x0->Religion of Health in Kosovo: What's going on and what can we do? There has been a comparison of data, saying that in 1986 there were 56 thousand and 283 births in Kosovo, while there were 25 thousand and 794 in 2019.
Avni Kastrati of the AKS spoke of the fertility rate, which according to him shows that population is now shrinking.
Ilir Berisha, U.d. The head of the AKS chief linked the birth loss to migration. According to him, although this has affected the entire region, other states have taken measures.
“Our statistics tell us we have a birth drop in Kosovo. This relates to fertility and migration. We believe that we will get better equipped for this phenomenon from this discussion. This phenomenon is present throughout the region, and wider, countries in the region have taken the steps over time. Unless births are declining, even migration is on the rise”, Berisha said.
The head of the UNFPA Office in Kosovo, Visar Mujku-Niman, laid out the need for policy change to deal with the issue. It warned that with visa liberalisation “halves of young people will leave Kosovo”.
The “Brengue of all is what's going to happen because the population is shrinking. The orientation is what other states that have been affected are doing, what measures must be taken, and which of them have succeeded. States that have been faced with this problem have proved and have made changes in politics such as education, leave off, parenting. We like Kosovo are waiting for what will happen with visa liberalisation now, where half of the young people will leave”, she said.
University of Pristina professor Mimoza Dusi said that Kosovo earlier had greater birth rates compared to countries in the region. For the declining fertility rate, she says the main cause is migration.
“From 1948 to 2011 as to the number of births in these periods Kosovo has had birth hikes compared to countries in the region. The overall potential rate during 2013-22 in Kosovo is 2.1, which is the highest rate compared to countries in the region. There are other sources that show that the fertility rate in Kosovo has marked decline. In Kosovo, the main cause of the population's population reduction is non-villivity”, Dashi said.
