According to Montenegrin Prime Minister Dritan Abazovic, these projects will, among other things, reduce dependence on Russian gas.
It's about building a terminal for the import of liquid natural gas (LNG) in Montenegro and installing a gas power plant whose supply would come through the terminal. terminal projects and thermal power plants will be in the port of Tivar.
This is geopolitically important for us, because it reduces dependence on Russian gas, but above all, it says that we know where we want the country to move to 10, 15, 20 years to come”, Abazovic said, Rel writes. The memorandum was signed by Abazovic, Phil Pyle, representative of Enerfflex Energy Systems and Ollin L. Wethington, president and CEO of Wethington Energy Innovation.
Wethington said Montenegro, at American companies, has the best technological partner. I believe we've secured power base”.
The memorandum signatories agreed it was about projects that would ensure energy security and create good prospects for Montenegro's further energy and overall economic progress.
After the memorandum, they could start working by the end of 2025. However, they did not want to talk about the starting date of the work and the value of investment, saying they depend on many factors.
The ambassador of the United States of America to Montenegro, Judy Reyes Reinke, said the project brings Montenegro the best in terms of technology, equipment, knowledge and skills.
Talks on this project were launched in January 2020.
At the time, assistant secretary for fossil energy at the US Energy Department Steven Winberg said Tivar port is an ideal resource for gas supply.
The port has an ideal position to accept liquid gas and present a node from which liquid gas would be transported to other locations. It is a deep - water port and can accept ships coming from the United States of America”.
The United States is the world's largest producer of liquid oil and natural gas, as well as one of the world's three biggest exporters.
