Kadri Veselin's defence lawyer, Ben Emmerson, said his client and neither the KLA have targeted supporters of the Democratic League of Kosovo.
“One of the shortcomings at the core of the evidence the prosecution has is the notion that a relatively small number of individuals, that the KLA leadership, have plotted together to target LDK supporters to persecute, but as you will hear, that's a rather different opinion than what happened on the ground”, he said.
According to Emmerson, the <x0 most of the KLA members were supporters of LDK”.
There weren't two separate groups involved. Conflicts have occurred, differences in thought have occurred, as in any case when two political forces --” are joined, Emmerson said.
Kadri Wessel's defence lawyer said that against his client there is no evidence except for one who will later be released and no witnesses that he has performed any of the works he is in charge of.
None of the witnesses have seen Kadri Wessel do anything inappropriate. Until last week there was a witness on the SPS list, even though he was dead and the evidence was on paper. He was a witness who claimed to have seen Wessel in Kukes interviewing a detainee. However, it was evident from the beginning and after we saw his statements and evidence that this witness was wrong in identifying Wessel, and he had thus expressed himself. The ZPS now acknowledges that this witness has wrongly identified Wessel. The SPS position is that it is unnecessary to change the charge. They do not propose to present evidence in support of this”, attorney Ben Emmerson said.
