Thousands of false pro-President Trump profiles are attacking DeSantis candidates, Haley

Over the past 11 months, someone created thousands, perhaps hundreds of thousands of false profiles, automated on the social Twitter network to publish endless praise for former President Donald Trump. In addition to publishing positive assessments of the former president, false profiles ridiculed Trump critics on both sides and attacked Nikki Haley, [...]
In addition to publishing positive assessments for the former president, false profiles made fun of critics of Trump on both sides and attacked Nikki Haley, former South Carolina governor and former US ambassador to the UN, who is challenging her former chief of presidential nomination of the republic in the 2024 elections.
When it comes to Ron DeSantis, false profiles say he won't be able to defeat Trump, but that he would be an excellent candidate for vice president.
While republican voters analyse their candidates for 2017, anyone who created the fake profile network is seeking to influence the process using online manipulation techniques that were used earlier by the Kremlin pioneers to influence the internet about candidates using Twitter algorithms to increase their scope.
The popular fake profile network was discovered by Cyabra researchers, an Israeli technological firm that shared its findings with the Associated Press news agency. While the identity of those behind the fake account network is unknown, Cyabra analysts determined that it was likely created within the United States.
To identify a robot profile, researchers will investigate an account profile, its list of followers, and its contents. The original profiles of people usually publish a variety of themes, with a mixture of original material and other material reshaping it into their profiles, but robotic profiles often post repeated content on the same topics.
And one of the accounts is going to write, President Biden is trying to take our guns; the other writes: President {Trump was the best”, and another means: The January “6 attack (in the Capitol) was a lie and Mr. Trump was innocent”, said Jules Gross, engineer at Cyabra who discovered the first network. “These voices are not human. For the sake of democracy I want people to know this is happening. ”
Robotic profiles, or what are commonly called 'Bots', are false accounts, automated ones that became widely known after Russia used them in an attempt to intervene in the American elections in 2016. While major technology companies have improved the discovery of false accounts, the network identified by Cyabra shows they remain a powerful force in shaping political discussions on the internet.
The new pro-Trump network is actually composed of three different Twitter account networks, all created in large groups in April, October and November 2022. Scholars generally believe that hundreds of thousands of accounts may be included.
All accounts have personal photos of the supposed account holder as well as a name. Some of the accounts publish their content, often in response to the publication of real users, while others re-publish content from real users, helping further reinforce claims.
“McConnell... Traitor! ” says in one of the publications, in response to an article in a conservative publication about Republican leader in the Senate, Mitch McConnell, one of several critics of Mr. Trump being targeted by the network.
One way to assess the impact of robotic profiles is to measure the percentage of publications on any particular subject created by seemingly false accounts. The percentage of typical online debates is often low. Twitter itself has said less than 5% of its active daily users are false accounts.
When Cyabra researchers reviewed the negative posts about Mr. Trump's particular critics, however, they found much higher levels of lack of authenticity. Almost three quarters of negative posts for Ambassador Haley, for example, were traced to false accounts.
The network also helped popularise calls for Governor DeSantis to join former President Trump as the candidate for vice president, a result that would serve the former presidents well and give him the opportunity to avoid a possible severe confrontation with Mr. Deans if he enters the race.
The same network of accounts shared generally positive content for former President Trump and contributed to a total fake view of his support on the internet, researchers found.
Our key understanding of what the republican sense of 2024 is being manipulated by the prevalence of automatized online accounts”, concluded researchers from Cyabra Company.
The triple network was discovered after engineer Gross analyzed Twitter messages for various political scene personalities on the national scale and noticed that many of the accounts publishing this content were created on the same day. Most accounts continue to be active, although they have a relatively modest number of followers.
A message left for Mr. Trump's election campaign spokesman was not immediately answered.
Most of the automated accounts are not designed to convince people, but to multiply specific content so that more people can see it, says Samuel Woolley, professor and researcher at the University of Texas, who has recently published a book focused on propaganda through automated computer programs.
When people see one hashtag or content from an automated account and redistribute it, then they help this network, and they also signal the Twitter network algorithm to share this content even wider.
Carmatized accounts may also succeed in convincing people that a certain candidate, or an idea, is more popular or less popular than he is, says Professor Wolfley. For example, if there are more automated pro-Trump accounts, then people may be struck by an exaggerated popularity.
“Autologgers absolutely affecting the flow of information”, Professor Wolfey said. “They are produced to create the illusion of popularity. Repetition is the main weapon of propaganda, and automated accounts are very good to repeat. They're very efficient in getting information to people in front of their eyes”.
Until recently, many of these automated accounts were easily identified because of careless writing or having account names containing meaningless words or numerous random numbers. Since social media platforms improved their capacities to detect these accounts, they became more sophisticated.
So - called Accounts cyborg They're such an example. They are automated accounts, which are sometimes controlled by a man who can publish the original content and respond to human - style users, thus making it much harder to spot them.
Soon, automated programs can become even more refined, thanks to advances in artificial intelligence. New artificial intelligence programs can create pictures of the profile that resemble reality, as well as posts that sound somewhat authentic. Automated programs that sound human and produce counterfeit videos with high technology can challenge platforms and users in new ways, says Katie Harbath, a researcher at the Centre for Dypartisan Policy and former Facebook Company for Public Policy.
“Platforms have improved greatly in fighting robotic programmes since 2016”, says Mrs. Harbath. But the species that we've started to see now, with artificial intelligence, they can create fake persons. False video”.
These technological advances seem to further ensure the future of automated programs in American politics, like digital soldiers in online campaigns, and as a potential problem for voters and candidates trying to protect themselves from anonymous cyber attacks.
There's never been any more noise on the internet”, says Tyler Brown, political consultant and former digital director for the Republican National Committee. “How much of this is malicious or even unevident? It's easy to imagine how people can manipulate this”.
