LDK: Low percentage of women in labour market, only 4 % enjoy property rights

The head of the Women's Forum in the Democratic League of Kosovo, Jehona Lushaku é Sadriu, has said that the percentage of women in the labour market continues to be low, compared to men. According to her, only 16 percent of women are active in the job market. It has also mentioned lack of nests as a factor [...]
She has also mentioned lack of nests as a key factor that women cannot be employed. According to her, the Kosovo government has promised the construction of 160 nests, but only three of them have started.
The first concern is domestic violence. From 2021 to 1986, women victims of domestic violence have two women killed. Meanwhile, in 2022 we had an increase of 2055 casualties, and we had three women killed. Murder must be emergency, it requires emergency policy. Our second concern is the lack of women in the labour market. Only 16 per cent of women in Kosovo are active in the labour market, and this speaks a lot from a record that 45 per cent men are active at work”, she said.
“20 percent women are discriminated against by fees for the same job as men. On the ground we are seeing that lack of nests makes it more difficult for women to work. In fact, in this government we had promises to build 160 nests and only 3 of them started”, she said further.
