Miroslav Lajcak, the European Union's emissary for Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, has said that the Association of Serb majority municipalities should not be seen by Kosovo as weakening its functionality.
According to him, there are 16 existing functional models that can be seen as models for minority rights and that all are in line with European standards.
In an interview for “entic Council”, Lajcak has said that Kosovo and Serbia should agree on what it should be like and how it shouldn't be. “We shouldn't be afraid of something that isn't yet available in the dialogue process.
Kosovo and Serbia are equal parties. Neither side can impose its will on the other side against its will”, he has said, adding that how the EU mediator is “preparation which, which would agree, must be in line with European standards”.
We're talking to our partners about existing models that are strengthening state functionality and not weakening, so we think we should be afraid. No one is interested in the weakened functioning of Kosovo. We should see it not as a threat or punishment or compromise, but the obligation on the one hand and should also be seen as building the trust of Kosovo Serbs and the Government of Kosovo and defining Serbia's Government reports with Kosovo Serbs according to European standards”, he said.
