For several years I have contributed to politics, but I consider it an important element of democracy that citizens of our country still have confidence in our political system. This is called political responsibility. So I resign as minister of Infrastructure and Transport. This is the least I can do in respect for the memory of victims”, writes Karamanlis.
Earlier, the area of the serious accident where two trains crashed at a speed of over 150km/h was visited and by Prime Minister Mitsotakis, who expressed commitment to whitewashing this serious event and putting those responsible to justice.
So far the chief of Larissa railway station has been arrested, which for minutes has not noticed that the passenger and freight train have been on the same track.
The railway accident occurred just before midnight near Tempes, where the first two train cars burst into flames because of the huge impact.
Many of the victims are reported to have been young people who would attend a festival.
