Greek journalist Alexia Kalatzi, who spent the night in Thessalonici conversing with witnesses, said: “We talked to many young people who were in deep shock”.
A male, in his early 20s, showed that he thought he was going to die after he heard a crash and then he saw the train coming off the street and it was all going down. He had to get out of there through a narrow space of”.
Other “confessed how they had used their luggage to break windows so that they could get out of train”, while adding that most of those who had talked to the journalist were students returning from vacation.
A passenger train has crashed into a freight train in northern Greece, leaving 38 people dead, while at least 85 have been injured.
The accident occurred in Tempe City just before midnight.
Parts of the train have come out of the tracks and are on fire.
