American Ambassador: To join the EU, Serbia will be urged to recognise Kosovo

The United States Ambassador to Kosovo, Jeffrey Havenier, has said he believes that as a precondition for membership in the European Union, Serbia will be required to recognise Kosovo as an independent and sovereign state.
Asked whether to remove Kosovo from its constitution after accepting the EU proposal?
Houvenier has replied that in the EU's 11-point plan, such a thing has not been negotiated, but that such a thing will be required for Serbia for membership in the European bloc.
“You have seen the text of the 11 points the sides have agreed to. I don't see reference to that issue on these 11 points. I don't believe this was a specific element in these” negotiations.
But what I would say is that the long-term vision of the US and the EU is that Kosovo is part of Euro-Atlantic structures. As far as I understand, Serbia too wants to become a member of the EU, at least this is the aspirin it has expressed”.

The American ambassador says he doesn't know how and when that will happen, but that the current focus is the agreement in Ohrid, which would reposition the relationship between Kosovo and Serbia.
