Seismologists: Kosovo not open to similar earthquake in Turkey

Kosovo could be hit by earthquakes, but not catastrophic, as is the last earthquake in Turkey, where thousands of citizens have lost their lives. After the powerful earthquake, which occurred two days ago in Turkey and Syria, Kosovo is estimated to be hit by earthquakes, but not that power.
Sismologist Shemsi Mustafa in a response to Radio Kosovo said there is no possibility in Kosovo that a similar earthquake would strike in Turkey and Syria, which left thousands of people and thousands more injured dead because our country is located further away from tectonic plates.
Mustafa, said that residential facilities should be built according to standards and become an estimate of how endangered those areas are from earthquake shocks, as thus far this has not happened in a large number of constructions.
Mustafa, said that the seismic risk map stipulates that Kosovo could be hit every five years by earthquakes, with a magnitude of 5.0, and that the strongest earthquake in Kosovo was in 1921, in the area of the Year-Ferizaj-Gnjilan, 6.1. According to him, there are three most endangered areas -- the northern Kosovo area that includes it from Mitrovica to the border, the northwest area to the southwestern area that includes from Istog to Prizren, and the southeastern area that is the Ferizaj-Viti-Jilan area.
