Serbia's President Aleksandar Vuciq said on Thursday that Serbia's state authorities are drafting “an important letter for the impact and intervention of an important country in Serbia's election process in the most brutal way”.
He did not specify which country he was referring to.
The “will be carried out by New Year's Eve and then we will send it around the world to see how such interventions are made in processes belonging to an independent sovereign state”, Vuciq said on Thursday.
Vuciq also said that the elections held on December 17th “were the cleanest and rightest so far”.
Last weekend, Serbia held parliamentary, provincial and local elections.
Serbia's largest opposition coalition “against violence” does not recognise the election results and requires holding new elections, claiming that Serbian Progressive Party (SNS)'s victory is the result of vote theft.
An international observer team consisting of O Mission members The SEU for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights, European Parliament, Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe and the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly noted “serious irregularities” during elections in Serbia.
On December 18th, they claimed that those elections were marked, among other things, by misuse of public funds, the media dominance of President Aleksandar Vuciq, a negative campaign and widespread fear.
Following these assessments have also been EU High Representative Josep Borrell and Enlargement Commissioner Oliver Varhely. On December 19th, they called on Serbia to significantly improve “the electoral process.
On December 19th, Serbia also called on the United States of America to investigate international observers' claims of electoral irregularities.
The SNS has in some cases dismissed accusations of changing election will and irregularities.
