Petrit Selimi, former deputy minister of foreign affairs, has published a letter about the association and positions of Prime Minister Albin Kurti.
Selimi has written that the prime minister is not telling the truth when he is talking about the issue of association.
Selimi said no preliminary government has drafted any draft status for Association, but only legal documents defining competencies. On the other hand, the former deputy minister also criticised Kurt's insistence on signing the deal.
The insistence on signing an agreement on a statute with Serbia is not wise. This is an internal document and internal issue for Kosovo. Do not make Serbia a party of legal interest in issues related to the ESM statute. Focus on regulating broken bilateral relations with our main Western allies.” he wrote.
In his writing, Selimi has criticised the VV, writing that he has lost Kosovo ten years.
“The VV lost Kosovo 10 years after it didn't get a better deal or worse than what was on the table a decade ago. Only geopoliticality is tougher now and Kosovo lost opportunity, time, resources, blood on the street. In saying so, I am pessimistic that this agreement will come true. Selim's criticism continues.
According to Selimi, association was not the discovery of past governments, but a duty mentioned first in the report by Kai Aides, the UN envoy who wrote the report on meeting standards before status.
The “Association was not the invention of previous governments. It is a tool mentioned in the UN report of Kai Eide 2005, the Ahtisaari 2007 plan and is a legal instrument. The ESM statue will follow old EU councils/ The US for the lack of executive branch, guaranteed assessment of the constitution by Kosovo, etc.” he continued.
Finally, Selimi also has an interesting prognosis. According to him, the agreement will probably not be realised.
The agreement will probably not be realised because Vuciq is doing everything (Unfortunately, successfully) to bring Kosovo into the status quo, and this government of Kosovo is not serious, has little trust with the Allies and has mismanaged the extension and diplomatic dialogue.” Selimi concludes.
