The White House said Israel has agreed to implement four-hour humanitarian pause during attacks on Hamas in northern Gaza beginning Thursday.
President Joe Biden had asked Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyah to implement daily pause during attacks on a call Monday. National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said the first humanitarian pause would be announced Thursday and that the Israelites had pledged to declare it at least three hours before their entry into force. Israel said it was also opening a second corridor for civilians to leave areas that are the actual target of the military campaign against Hamas, via a coastline linked to the main north-south highway in the Gaza Strip.
President Biden also told reporters he had asked the Israelis a <x0pause longer than three days” during negotiations for the release of several hostages held by Hamas, though he said that “had no option” for a general ceasefire. Asked whether he was angry by Mr. Netanyahu for delays in the beginning of humanitarian pauses, President Biden said: “took a little longer than I hoped”.
Mr. Kirby told reporters Thursday that pauses can be useful for “the return of 239 hostages to their families, including fewer than 10 Americans we know are being held hostage. So if we can get all the hostages out, that's a good purpose with time limits. ”

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken warned Israel last week that he was risking to damage a possibility of peace in the near future unless he acts quickly to improve humanitarian conditions for Palestinian civilians at the Gaza Strip while the Israeli Army is intensifying the fight against Hamas.
In an open call to Israel for a pause of military operations in the Gaza Strip to allow the arrival of aid there, Secretary Blinken said the serious situation would push Palestinians towards further radicalisation, which could put an end to prospects for restarting peace talks to end conflict.
French President Emmanuel Macro opened a conference Thursday for the Gaza Belt collection with an appeal for Israel to protect civilians, saying that “all life is worth equal to” and that the fight against terrorism “could not be carried out without a respect for rules”. / VOA
