Leaders of the United States, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, and Great Britain reaffirmed their support for Israel and its right to defend themselves, but they also urged him to uphold international humanitarian law and protect civilians.
In a joint communique Sunday evening for Israel's war with the militant group Hamas, leaders welcomed the release of two hostages from Hamas, as well as called for the immediate release of all other hostages.
US President Joe Biden called the virtual meeting with leaders of the countries of Quint, U.S.A., France, Germany, Great Britain, Italy and Canada after having talked with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Their calls were made due to increased fears that the war between Israel and Hamas could spread to a wide conflict in the Middle East, as Israel continued shelling Gaza and clashes on the Lebanese border intensified.
In the statement, Beden, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Tredeau, French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Melon and British Prime Minister Rich Sunak pledged to work closely together to support their citizens in the region, especially those who want to leave Gaza.
