The United States has been unable to confirm that Serbia has withdrawn troops and military vehicles from the border with Kosovo, State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said Monday.
He stressed that Washington continues to be concerned about the continuing increase in tensions and occasional violence in northern Kosovo.
On Monday earlier, Serbia's Army Chief of General Staff, Milan Mojsilovic, said Serbia has withdrawn some of its troops stationed near the border with Kosovo after increasing the number of troops there following the attack of an armed group against Kosovo Police in northern Kosovo.
“We have seen the news that Serbia has withdrawn troops, but we have not yet been able to prove this” independently, Miller said during a news conference Monday.
He said the US would seek to prove this and that “if this is true, then this is a welcome step, something we called for last week to happen”. /rel/
