Slovenian Prime Minister Robert Golob, as soon as he arrived today at the European Political Community Summit (EPS) in Granada, Spain, called for caution in imposing possible sanctions against Serbia following the recent aggression in Zvecan Banjska.
According to him, they do not have to lead to permanent solution, but Slovenia will join sanctions if there is a unified position for this in the EU.
As he said, leaders of EU member states have not yet discussed imposing possible sanctions on Serbia.
“But I think we should be careful, consistent and persistent”, he stressed.
According to the prime minister, calming the situation and seeking a permanent solution is necessary.
I don't believe sanctions in themselves could lead to a permanent solution. If necessary and if there is a unified position, Slovenia will join. But this is not necessarily the first and only step”, he said.
The latest “situations in northern Kosovo, where a Kosovo policeman and three Serb attackers were killed in a terrorist attack and subsequent clashes, are punishable”, Gorob said.
It is fair that the international community condemn individuals who encouraged escalation. Slovenia also strongly condemns individuals who participated in this or directed this process”, he said.
Solving tensions, he sees it in repeat elections in four Serb majority municipalities in northern Kosovo. He called on all, including Kosovo Serbs, to participate in the elections to elect legitimate authorities, writes Megafon.si.
