US President Joe Biden said Wednesday that the US Army is ready to fight China on behalf of the Philippines after military ships from the two Asian countries crashed near a controversial and unpopular island in the South China Sea, reports NY Post.
The United States Defence Agreement with the Philippines is iron. Any attacks on aircraft, ships or the Filipino armed forces will activate our mutual protection treaty with the Philippines”, Biden said during a joint White House press conference together with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albante.
The 1951 mutual protection pact says the US and the Philippines together will be “thanks against armed external attacks”.
On Sunday, two of the Filipino military ships crashed into a Chinese ship that tried to block them from landing in “Second Thomas Shoal”, an island located along important shipping routes.
