The manager for forming the new Montenegrin government, Milojko Spajzic, has announced that negotiations on forming the government are successfully under way, and that the coalition “for the Future of Montenegro”, known for its pro-ruso-Serbian orientation, has a greater than expected majority.
“Negotiations are progressing, a political agreement is the next step. Now we are working on creating a” agreement, Spajic said, reports Montenegrin media “Pobjeda”.
He pointed out that he will not talk about the subjects that will participate in the government, but that they will have “a greater majority than expected”.
In the hours of Wednesday, the gathering of potential voters of the next government was held. The head of the Albanian Forum, Nick Gilosha, has been the first to leave the meeting, and this before its completion, giving no explanation for that.
Following these news, the US Embassy in Montenegro has reacted.
In response, the US has said that a new Montenegrin government that opposes European values, and refuses to guarantee the sovereignty of neighbouring countries, “sic is Kosova”, will exacerbate the country's efforts for European integration.
“We are very concerned about reports that the new ruling coalition may contain parties and leaders who actively oppose Euro-Atlantic values. The reality is that the government's participation of groups or leaders who refuse to oppose Russian aggression, refuse to contribute to Ukraine, refuse to support EU sanctions against Russia, refuse to protect minority rights and refuse to protect the sovereignty of neighbouring countries like Kosovo, will drastically hinder Montenegro's efforts in achieving European aspirations”, the US Embassy in Podgorica has said.
The US says their position on forming the government has not changed.
“We support the rapid formation of a government that supports Euro-Atlantic values, represents a multicultural Montenegro, stands as a reliable ally NATO, strongly supports Ukraine and continues to work actively towards EU integration”, the US response reported. /Klankosova
