I'd like to invite you to our October European Council meeting in Brussels, which will begin at 1500 on Thursday, October 26th, as well as at our Euro Summit meeting tomorrow”, the invitation's entry said.
Initially, Michel spoke of the Middle East war and EU support of Israel, but said this war would distract Union from the war in Ukraine, Express reports.
Our “meeting comes at a time of great global instability and uncertainty, recently exacerbated by developments in the Middle East. These developments require our immediate attention without distracting us from our continued support for Ukraine. Our responsibility is to remain united and coherent and to act in accordance with our sanctioned values in the Treaty. The Middle East situation is a tragedy. We expressed our common position in our October 15th statement. At our meeting I expect that we will once again condemn in the harshest possible terms brutal and indiscriminate terrorist attacks on Israel and recognise Israel's right to defend ourselves, in accordance with international law and international humanitarian law. We will also repeat our call for immediate and unconditional release of all hostages”.
Later, Michel said member states would deal with other topics of concern, where he mentioned Kosovo-Serbia dialogue.
“We will also cover other disturbing foreign policy issues, including the situation in Sahel, Pristina-Belgrade relations and the South Caucasus”, the invitation said.
Also, Michel said they would talk about the important “them of migration, praising the steps taken since our recent discussion in Granada”.
At the Euro Summit, we will be joined by the presidents of the European Central Bank and the Eurogroup to discuss the economic and financial situation, as well as the continuation of the close co-ordination and governance of our macroeconomic policies. We will also consider the progress achieved in our Union of Capital Markets and Banking Union, as well as the work launched for a digital euro”, Michel said.
I'm just expecting to see what I hope will be a very productive meeting”, the letter concludes.
