The United States' ambassador to the Republic of Kosovo, Jeffrey Hovenier, has said there are pledges on the part of Kosovo to push ahead with the association of Serb majority municipalities.
According to him, 24 September made it clear how urgent it is to complete implementation of the agreement between Kosovo and Serbia reached in February and the application annex, which was reached in March.
I think September 24th underlined and made it very clear how urgent it is to move forward with this important job to achieve full implementation on both sides, for all pledges on the basis of the implementation agreement and the annex. There are many good commitments in this basic agreement. They include things like avoiding the use of force, solving and problems through peaceful ways, respect for each other's borders. There are also pledges on the Kosovo side, regarding the postponement ahead of the association of Serb majority municipalities, as a means to address the concerns of the ethnic Serb community here. We also think that this is very important and urgent”, Hovenier said at CONTEXT of ATV
For the coming days, he warned an important visit to Kosovo, which he says is the reflection of the seriousness with which the US and our European partners in the EU see the current situation.
A very important visit will take place, as we discussed, and I think it is a reflection of the seriousness with which the United States and our European partners in the EU see the current situation. We want to see real progress. Not in negotiating new pledges between Kosovo and Serbia, but to see the agreement reached in February and implementation of the annex in March fully implemented by both sides. I think this next visit will be a manifestation of the importance for this to be realised”, Havenier said.
