In his conclusions, The EC says it is concerned about the situation in northern Kosovo by sharply condemning the attack on police.
On the other hand, the EC says the European Union expects the authors to be brought to justice and Serbia will contribute in that direction.
The European Council is deeply concerned about the security situation in northern Kosovo1F*. It strongly condemns the violent attack against the Kosovo Police on 24 September 2023. The European Union expects authors to be arrested and brought to justice quickly, and Serbia will co-operate fully and take all necessary steps in this direction”, the EC says.
On the other hand, it says Kosovo and Serbia should continue their efforts for the deespass, in terms of organising new elections in the north, where Serbs would participate.
Kosovo and Serbia must continue sustainable efforts for the deespass, as well as ensure holding new elections in northern Kosovo as soon as possible, with the active participation of Kosovo Serbs” said further in the conclusion.
The association does not go unnoticed by the EC.
The European Council laments the lack of implementation of both sides of the Agreement on the road to normalisation and its Implementation Annex, as well as other agreements reached in the EU-launched dialogue, led by the High Representative and supported by the EU Special Representative. It calls on Kosovo and Serbia to implement them, without delay and preconditions. This includes the establishment of the Association/United municipalities with the Serbian Majority. The normalisation of relations is a fundamental condition on the European road of both sides, and both risk losing significant opportunities in the absence of progress”, said at the end of the 28th finding.
