Gert Jan Koopman, director of neighbourhood policies at the European Commission, has accompanied European Commission President Ursula von Leyeen on Monday during her visit to Kosovo, where she met with president Vjosa Osmani and Prime Minister Albin Kurti.
The European Union official said visas for Kosovars would be lifted on January 1st, 2024.
He has also written on the X platform for dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia, considering it essential.
It is important that Kosovo move forward with its EU reform agenda. Normalising relations with Serbia is essential. We look forward to visa liberalisation starting on January 1st, 2024<1>, he has said.
During this month, France's president, Emmuel Macron, had issued a statement that was named as a more meaningful statement. His statement was also interpreted as a “option” for suspending visa liberalisation.
