Israel launched air strikes as retaliation against an unexpected and surprising attack by Hamas militants who broke border barriers and entered Israel's territory early Saturday morning.
According to the UN office, the Ministry of Gas for Public Affairs and Stream said 159 house units were destroyed in another 1,210 were severely damaged by Israeli bombings.
Israeli air strikes have also caused damage to the water and sewer infrastructure, affecting more than 400,000 people and damaging some health facilities.
Israel says more than 700 people have been killed and another 100 have been kidnapped by Hamas.
In Gaza, more than 400 people have been killed after the revenge air bombing by Israel, according to Palestinian officials.
