Authorities have imposed urgent measures to address rising levels of smog, Euronews writes.
Air pollution levels have increased 28 times the safety threshold set by the World Health Organization.
The government has recommended companies give up pregnant women and persons over 60 years of age.
Residents who burn materials to warm their homes, vehicle emissions, and industrial discharges are believed to be the main causes of the smog.
According to the measurements of a Swiss company Skopje is the third most polluted city in the world.
