There is no place in democratic societies for dirty tactics against citizens, such as those used against Edward Joseph, the US State Department for Europe and Asia tweeted on Twitter.
In addition to this announcement, Joseph published the statement, where he said Serbia's president, Aleksandar Vuciq, has made serious and baseless accusations against him during a presentation of the Serbian lawmaker on a television in Serbia on December 30th.
The US State Department added that independent voices and civil society organisations promote accountability and transparency.
We value those who build peaceful societies in the Western Balkans”, the UN said.
This tweet was accompanied by a photograph of Joseph with US Assistant Secretary of State for Europe and Eurasia Gabriel Escobar.
What did Vucciki say?
On December 30th, during a presentation on Prva television, Aleksandar Vuciq called Edward Josephin, legalist at Johns Hopkins University and former head of the Kosovo mission of the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe “Albanian” about what Joseph had declared a day earlier in an interview given to Radio Free Europe.
Calling “bastard” Josephin, Vuciq also told Serbian television that this Balkan expert gets “a lot of money from the Albanian lobby”.
The Serbian president offered no evidence of these claims.
What did Joseph say in the interview and after Vuciki's statement?
During the REL interview, among other things, Joseph argued about barricades set up by a group of local Serbs in northern Kosovo who blocked roads for almost three weeks, Vuciq “was manipulating the United States and the European Union”.
He also said that calm in Kosovo, after giving up the barricades, will last “until Aleksandar Vucqi decides he needs a new crisis in Kosovo”.
Following Vuciqi's accusations, Joseph wrote on Twitter that they are the constitutionally false “” regarding the alleged financial links between him and the Albanian “lob”.
<x) My stances are the product of dozens of years on the ground in all Balkan conflicts, including the war years”, wrote Joseph.
He added that by insulting and personally attacking him, Vuciq again demonstrated his character.
“Nepristian is a Serbian polite word for Vuciqi's exciting behavior. Diplomats should respect the office of the Serbian president. Residents? Not so much”, Joseph stressed. (Rel)
