Andreas Mansson, the engineer who oversees the power needs of churches in the Lund City diocese, said that between 150 and 540 churches in this region will be completely or partially closed in the winter under Sweden's efforts to reduce energy consumption.
Churches that remain open will reduce heat to save energy.
Under the measures to save energy, the seas will be closed, while some will work lowering temperatures.
The Swedish government has also asked state bodies in Sweden's 200 municipalities to reduce electricity consumption during the winter months.
