The change of this summit with other summits held between the union and the Western Balkans lies in the fact that the host of this meeting will be one of the countries of the region.
So at least report Serbian state television Radio, “RTS”, calling to diplomatic sources in Brussels.
“The summit will most likely be held in Albania or Northern Macedonia”, reports RTS based on diplomatic sources.
“This meeting will give a new, strong signal of the EU's commitment to the Western Balkans, with a message for the countries of the region to benefit from the newly established political environment in Europe, in order to improve the membership process and resolve open issues in the region”,
In Brussels they estimate that the war in Ukraine has strengthened awareness in Europe of the importance of enlargement policy, which is evidenced also by the readiness to make rapid progress in talks with Ukraine and other countries that were not part of the process until late.
It is important that Western Balkan countries do not stand aside and lose the moment for faster progress. The following months will require ways for concrete progress on issues as the start of negotiations with Northern Macedonia, concrete progress in dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia, the demand for visa liberalisation”, RTS further reports.
