Kosovo Specialised Chambers Speaker Ekaterina Trendafilova has again spoken of the beginning of the trial against former KLA leaders.
Trendafilova said it was a very volumeous and difficult case. According to her judgment against former KLA leaders may begin at the end of this year, or early next year.
“Sic stressed, this is a very broad case and it's very difficult. Of course I do, as far as I can because I have other obligations, some of the sessions, some of the parachutes. The impressive information the defence proclaimed at the latest status conference, which was public, is that the number of pages of evidence is approaching a million. So this is really a case of many witnesses. The prosecutor is currently examining more than 318. The defense has the right to present as many evidence and witnesses as possible to benefit them. But in view of progress in the preliminary procedure, both the judge of the preliminary procedure and the appeals college resolved all proposals regarding jurisdiction, compliance with requirements and shortcomings in the indictment. My assessment is that it can happen, who knows, by the end of this year. But this is a clean speculation on my side”, she said in an interview for Kossev.
Trandafilova has also talked about visiting Kosovo, though on Wednesday he was forced to cancel an activity in Gjilan, which he did through online platforms.
This is my first visit to Kosovo after the pandemic. Previously, I had meetings through Zoom, as a meeting of civil society in early July. This is ultimately the most important purpose of my visit. Because that's what we do, what I personally do, is transparent, professional. I want to meet people, simple people, that means not necessarily lawyers, because it's important to talk and ask me to avoid any misunderstandings or shortcomings when it comes to our information activities”, she said.
