The attack came after Iranian authorities charged armed Iranian Kurdish dissidents with involvement in riots that are now shaking Iran.
The official said nine people were killed and 32 were injured in attacks near Erbili and Sulayaniyah in Iraqi Kurdistan.
“Some of the wounded are in critical condition and the death toll could rise”, the official said in a statement.
Eyewitnesses said at least 10 bases of Iranian Kurds near Sulayaniyah in Iraqi Kurdistan were hit today in a fear attack.
Iraq's Foreign Ministry condemned the attacks, while the Iranian Revolutionary Guard announced it would continue to attack terrorists in the region.
On Saturday and Monday, Iran's Revolutionary Guard carried out a series of artillery and attacks with fear over Kurdish positions as a response to continuing protests shaking Iran for the death of a 22-year-old Kurdish-born Mahsa Ammini.
The UN secretary-general called on Iran early Wednesday to refrain from using unnecessary or disproportionate <x0-force” against protesters.
Amin, a girl from Iran's Kurdistan province, fell into a coma and died in custody in Tehran last week after he was arrested by moral police for disobeying hijab dress rules.
Her death sparked large-scale protests on the streets of Iran, the first since authorities suppressed protests against the increase in gas prices in 2019.
