China's former Justice Minister has been sentenced to death Thursday, on charges of bribery and also of helping criminal activities, including hiding his brother's criminal activities, the Chinese broadcaster CCTV reported, the AP agency.
Execution of the decision will not take place for the next two years.
Fu Genghua is the next senior official to be punished for corruption. The list is quite long since China's President Xi Jinping took power in late 2012.
The 67-year-old Fu has been convicted of abusing power both in the minister's role and as chief police officer in China, Beijing, from 2005 to 2021, hiding crimes, including those of his brother and others.
Fu in exchange received money and property worth a total of $16.5m, Chinese newspaper “China Daily” wrote in July.
The former minister's brother has not been known.
CCTV has published images where Fu appears in court to accept the verdict.
Death sentences sometimes return to long-term prison if convicted is deemed reformed.
Fu will be sentenced to life imprisonment without parole, if his sentence is eased.
