Serbian List Chairman Goran Rakic said that the ambassadors of the QUINT states, during the meeting held on 15 August in Pristina, have asked the mayors of majority Serb municipalities in Kosovo that “accept reality, and that reality is that Kosovo is independent”.
Those comments were made during a media conference in the Serbian government in Belgrade on Tuesday, attended by the four mayors in northern Kosovo and the director of the Office for Kosovo in Serbian Government, Petar Petkovic.
The QUINT states belong to the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy and France, and all recognise Kosovo's independence declared on February 17, 2008.
Rakic said that at the meeting with the QUINT ambassadors they agreed not to make public the details of the meeting, but “due to the weight and seriousness of the message they received yesterday, we have a human morality and political responsibility to inform citizens that they live in Kosovo”.
At the meeting, which lasted more than two hours, the mayors announced to the ambassadors about the problems they have in the municipality... At that meeting, the main message we heard from ambassadors was that their states recognise Kosovo's independence. We also heard that they absolutely support decisions made by Pristina. Especially did they stress that they support Pristina's decisions on license plates and the document for entry and exits that will be issued to Serbs when they enter Kosovo”, Rakic said.
