Montenegro's Security Agency (ANB) confirmed on 26 August to Radio Free Europe that Russian services were responsible for a powerful cyber attack that affected the entire state information structure of the Montenegrin Government.
According to the agency, Friday's attack was long prepared and that an attack on such sizes was unprecedented in the Balkan state.
The critical state infrastructure has been attacked”, a Montenegro Security Agency official confirmed to Radio Europe Free.
The latest cyber attacks on Montenegro's government infrastructure took place early in the morning, and government agencies have not yet revealed the extent of the damage.
Earlier, the prime minister with technical mandate, Dritan Abazovic, confirmed that Montenegro's government has been attacked by hackers for the second time in five days, calling attacks politically motivated.
“In my modest judgment, this is a politically motivated attack,” said Abazovic, recalling the previous cyber attack on August 23rd after his government fell after the no-confidence motion.
Due to the recent cyberattack, Montenegro's government has scheduled a session of the National Information Security Council.
Public Administration Minister Maras Dukaj was the first to make the announcement today in his Twitter account, when he declared Montenegro was exposed to a new series of cyber attacks on the government's information infrastructure.
