Initial discussion of the visit had prompted sharp warnings from China, which claims Taiwan is part of its territory.
Lavrov, among other things, says this visit was a deliberate Washington attempt to irritate China, writes Aljazeera.
“I don't see any other reason to create such an inconvenience from almost blue, knowing very well what it means to the People's Republic of China”, Lavrov said.
US House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi is visiting Taiwan, making it the highest American official to have done so in 25 years.
