As he explained, the former American president, in his sworn statement, was summoned to the Fifth Amendment of the US Constitution, which allows a citizen not to testify to anything that could incriminate him.
The investigation opened in 2019 and concerns whether the Trump company (Trump Organization) has artificially absorbed property prices it owned to seek tax relief and take credit. Trump tried to delay it as long as possible, using every legal weapon available.
However, Ivanka Trump and Donald Jr., two of Trump's children, have already testified to the authorities.
Today, Wednesday, it was Trump's turn to declare. An hour after arriving at the prosecutor, he published a statement about the dear “witch trial against him”
In the statement, Trump attacked General Prosecutor Leticia James and the fake news media, referring to the search of his residence in Florida, where FBI agents took some boxes of materials as part of an investigation into the treatment of classified documents by the former president.
They asked me once: “If you're innocent, why are you referring to the Fifth Amendment? He added that when all around him, in his family and businesses, are at the centre of a non-founded and politically motivated witchages by lawyers, prosecutors and media spreading false news”.
Trump also said that the FBI's “basket in Mar-a-Lago, just two days before this testimony, removed any uncertainty.
I had no other choice, because this administration and many prosecutors in this country have crossed all moral boundaries of courtesy”, Trump said.
He concluded the statement, saying that for these reasons and with his lawyer's advice, he used the “amendment with the right and privilege of each citizen under the United States Constitution”.
